Community Sculpture Trail

No other rural community in Illinois has the quality and quantity of historic and contemporary public sculpture as Oregon, Illinois. In 1898 artists associated with the Chicago Art Institute, including nationally renowned sculptor Larado Taft, began the Eagles Nest Art Colony on the bluff overlooking the Rock River. (their goal/philosophy was all about art for the people.)

The monumental “Eternal Indian”, Veteran’s Memorial, and Fish Boys remain in town from that time, as well as an historical collection of sculptures and paintings in the gallery at the public library Other artists have continued to contribute work through the years. Most recently, the Community Art Legacy has completed a series of 10 award winning sculptures in the past 10 years.
