Job Title: Street Department Laborer
Reports To: Street Superintendent
Maintain grounds, structures and equipment of public and city property by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:
Perform duties as required by the Street Superintendent
Pothole patching and sectional asphalt repairs to streets
Monthly brush pick-up
Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged branches
Spray weeds in right of way and other city properties
Cleaning/repairing of storm sewer catch basins
Weekly refuse pick-up in downtown area
Maintain paint striping on streets and public parking areas
Plow snow from streets and alleys
Spread salt on streets, alleys, and public parking areas to prevent ice build up
Plant grass and trees in right of ways
Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks
Paint fences and out buildings
Clean out drainage ditches
Gravel and dirt work along roadways, parkways, and alleys
Install, maintain, and replace street signs
Maintain and clean street department equipment and vehicles
Keep shop areas clean and organized
Follow company policies and adhere to safety regulations
Assist as needed in other departments as directed by the Street Superintendent
Responsible for the accurate completion of time sheets
Must be available for after hour snow removal
All other jobs, duties, and responsibilities as directed by the Street Superintendent
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. However, under direction of the Street Superintendent, responsibilities include providing guidance to summer and or community service workers.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Also have the ability to write simple correspondence. Be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the City of Oregon.
Have the ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and the ability to multiply and divide with tens and one-hundreds; be able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete valuables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Need a Class B CDL license, the necessary pesticide and/or herbicide application certificate, and any health-related immunizations required by law, or ability to acquire within six months of hire.
