Oregon, IL VFW Post 8739 Helping Veterans

March 29, 2021

Oregon, IL VFW Post 8739 and Mess Hall Helping Veterans: On March 29 we will be holding a Viet Nam Era Veterans Appreciation Breakfast. If you served from 1955 to 1975 in any branch of the US Military you will be more than welcome for a free Breakfast (Scrambled eggs, sausage, Hash Browns and Biscuits and Gravy, coffee, lemon aide, water). Casey’s has said they will donate some breakfast Pizzas. We will start serving at 9 AM and serve till 11:30.
We are planning on having Doug Wean (Navy) a Silver Star winner and John Tuttle (Army) a Bronze Star Veteran who both served in Viet Nam. Please feel free to bring your memorabilia and stories to share. We are going to start with an opening prayer by VFW Chaplin and Post 97 Legion Commander John Tuttle. Following prayer we’ll do the Pledge of Allegiance.
Other than breakfast we will have organizations here who may have information to assist you. Most Veterans may be eligible for VA benefits you are not aware of. We are planning on having a person from the Veterans Assistance Commission. They will be able to answer questions and see if you meet the requirements for VA benefits.
We are trying to have someone here from Serenity Hospice and Home and the Oregon Living & Rehabilitation Center. They both offer benefits for Veterans. We will have a Barber here from the Patriot Barber Shop who has offered to give free haircuts for veterans during the breakfast. You will find this is an event you don’t want to miss.
