The United States of America will commemorate its 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s history. As part of Oregon’s commitment to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States a group of citizens and organization leaders have stepped forward willing to organize and support local events in honor of this momentous occasion. The City will help establish a central database of events happening in Oregon. The city council supported the establishment of a 250th Commemoration Committee and appoint the following members:
Roger Cain, Jessica Cash, John Dickson (Chairman), Mike Glenn, Lee Haddick, Jeff Hallock, Dave Head, Jeff Hendricks, Mark Herman, Liz Hiemstra, Matthew Lenox, John Lindhorst, and Karly Spell.
The committee is working on possible events for June around Flag Day.
• Friday June 12 – Jeff Hendricks/Lee Haddick – Conover – 6p-8p – Sound systems – City and Matthew Lenox have sound systems that can be used. Possibly have a branded ball race as a fundraiser event. Tug across the rock? CMAAA also has their art award reception that night. Speakers: VFW? High School Kid essays and band, Barber Shop Quartet 20-30 minutes total. Ball fundraiser. (Banks?)
• Saturday June 13 – 10a or 11a start time -6p (TBD) – Depot – Dave Head – Start with in-door program (Chris Martin) Essays then food truck set up should know minimum price soon.
• Sunday June 14 – Mike Glenn -1p-4p Flags, Most Patriotic – CMAAA – including most decorated and most patriotic winners that day. 1p-4p Historical Characters, Hotdogs
